Washington, DC – The Bipartisan Policy Center is announcing a new initiative with curriculum and resources to educate congressional and committee staff on the latest developments in Artificial Intelligence.
AI 101 will help legislative staff develop a strong understanding of AI fundamentals and its real-world applications. Last year saw several important advances in AI governance, including the bipartisan SAFE Innovation Framework. By participating in our program, Congress will be uniquely positioned to better create policy while this technology continues to evolve.
“Having informed policymakers on AI is pivotal,” said Tom Romanoff, director of the technology program at BPC. “AI will transform all aspects of our society. As a leader on AI, BPC is well poised to help bridge the informational divide, ensuring today’s public servants are equipped with the skills and experience necessary to thoughtfully navigate the opportunities and challenges of AI.”
BPC’s new AI101 website is a centralized hub for on-demand workshops, educational materials and information on AI fundamentals. The first workshop is expected to launch next month. The program will cover principles of AI literacy, an in-depth overview of the history of AI, and common terms and definitions. Participants will be able to differentiate between fundamental concepts such as AI, machine learning, and data and big data.
BPC developed the curriculum with guidance from several esteemed academic institutions, including Carnegie Mellon University, and Google is the lead financial sponsor.
